Our Story
The United Pentecostal Church is an international organisation with churches in over two hundred nations around the world.

The work of the United Pentecostal Church of Timor-Leste began in 2004, under the pioneering work of Bishop Bernardo Guterres and his dear wife Sis Palmira Soares.
Bishop Guterres served as a pastor during the Portuguese occupation under the Assembly of God Church and later continued his ministry under GPPS churches during the Indonesian occupation in Timor-Leste. Interested in apostolic doctrine, he came across the ministry of Rev Bennie DeMerchant (UPCI fellowship) who introduced Bishop Guterres to the UPCA fellowship in 2004. He and his family were baptised in Jesus’ name in that year.

Bishop Guterres and Sis Soares' sacrifice and labour of love saw souls won to God's Kingdom. This burden was passed down to their son-in-law and daughter, Rev Silvester Randut and Rev Olinda Soares Guterres. Supported by a growing group of ministers and leaders, they established the Igreja Pentecostal Unida of Timor-Leste, which continues to expand the apostolic message around the nation.

IPUTL's vision statement describes what we are currently doing to accomplish its Mission:

“Strengthen and expand the work of God in Timor-Leste, leading to repentance and acceptance of Jesus Christ as God and saviour, and a body of believers who stand firm in the gospel of Jesus Christ and the doctrine of the apostles, and who show the love of God to one another.” (Acts 2: 38, Ephesians 2:20, John 13:35)

Our Beliefs
When people hear of the ‘United Pentecostals’ they often ask what makes this church different to others. This is a very natural question and deserves an answer which can be tested against God’s word, the Holy Bible.
There are some very basic questions every person must ask themselves if they are searching out spiritual direction.
First, who is God? If we don’t know who He is then how will we know what to believe?
God and His instructions cannot be separated. If we have a god who is not the real God, then we will find ourselves trying to believe a lie.
Secondly, what are the first things God want us to do to become one of His followers and therefore please Him?
Thirdly, what are His instructions for our life so we can maintain our relationship as His children?
Maybe you have never thought through these steps. If this is the case we invite you to contact us for more information.
